DOWN
Created for the Short Shorts Film Festival 2010, DOWN is an experimental short in which individuals repeatedly collapse in public spaces, their falls expressing despair, vulnerability, and the struggle to persevere. The film is set to Maronie Street, an instrumental piece by accordionist Marcato, selected by Aoyama from festival submissions. Through this music-driven framework, the film explores human fragility and resilience with minimalistic, poetic imagery, reflecting Aoyama’s interest in blending visual and musical storytelling.

A 2010 film from an era before CGI overload, with real performances that still hit hard. Best for: genre fans and those open to something unconventional.
