Days in the Shade

2003 · 43 min Documentary Drama History

In modern-day Kanazawa, writer Tokuda Shūsei returns to his hometown and is quietly drawn to Okine, the daughter of a fading inn. Inspired by four of Shūsei’s works, director Shinji Aoyama (Desert Moon) transforms the inner world of a Meiji-era novelist into a meditative film that drifts between memory and the present, culminating in a luminous live performance that dissolves the boundary between art and life.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

Days in the Shade is an acquired taste at 0.0/10. We recommend checking the trailer and synopsis before diving in.

Not every film is made for everyone. Read the synopsis, watch the trailer — you'll know right away if it's for you.

A 2003 film from an era before CGI overload, with real performances that still hit hard. Best for: genre fans and those open to something unconventional.
