Magic Land

Marko, a forty-year-old architect from Zagreb, inherits a dilapidated house in a remote village. "You always dreamed of peace and quiet," his wife says, seeing him off to this "magical land." Instead of idyll, Marko finds an alcoholic neighbor demanding the land back, a local priest fundraising for church restoration, and the former owner who claims her ancestors buried treasure there. His attempt to escape urban chaos turns into an absurd quest for survival in a world of rural intrigues, superstitions, and unexpected hospitality. The film balances on the edge of black comedy and lyrical drama, exploring the search for roots in a place that both repels and fascinates. Shot in authentic Croatian locations, it highlights the contrast between modern urbanism and an archaic way of life.
