Per Anhalter zur Ostsee
Martin, a forty-year-old teacher from Berlin, abruptly decides to leave everything behind and hitchhike to the Baltic Sea. His companion is a random passenger, the silent Pole Kamil, connected only by the road and awkward silence. As they move north through the forests and abandoned villages of the former GDR, their journey transforms into a strange dialogue between two solitudes. Martin tries to escape routine and a failed marriage, Kamil — his own past. Instead of the expected liberation, the trip exposes each man's internal fractures. The road becomes a metaphor for searching for lost meaning, where every kilometer brings them closer not to the sea, but to uncomfortable truths about themselves. The film explores the theme of escape, which always leads back — to the necessity of facing what one tries to hide from.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
Director Anna Weiss constructs the narrative through minimalism and long static shots, where what remains off-screen matters more. The camera captures not action, but a state — the weariness of the asphalt, the silence between lines, the weight of a backpack on shoulders.
Those who tire of fast-paced plots will find a contemplative rhythm here, where the real journey happens in glances and pauses. Anyone ready for a film that values atmosphere over event will discover a poignant study of unspoken masculinity. — MovieFinder Editorial
