The Witch of the West Is Dead
Thirteen-year-old Mai, suffocated by school bullying and her own asthma, escapes the city for her grandmother's country cottage. The grandmother, an Englishwoman with a mysterious local reputation, agrees to teach her granddaughter the 'witch's craft'. The lessons turn out not to be magical spells, but simple rituals of daily life: gathering herbs, making jam, listening to the wind and birdsong. Slowly, the forest's quiet and the old woman's wisdom become a healing balm, restoring the girl's ability to breathe deeply and find profound joy in small, simple things.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
This film transforms a summer idyll into a delicate therapy for the soul, where each scene is a step toward healing. The director sidesteps sentimentality, portraying growth as a difficult yet natural process, much like a plant reaching for the sun.
What lingers after the credits is a meditative calm and a renewed appreciation for life's quiet rhythms. It’s a gentle reminder of the magic found in presence and simplicity. — MovieFinder Editorial
