Lorenzo Valero, heir to a textile empire, receives an invitation to a masked ball in a Venetian palazzo. Under the cloak of anonymity, he strikes a deal to save his company. But by midnight, when masks are removed, Lorenzo realizes he has become a pawn in a game whose rules were written centuries before his birth. Every guest is connected to his family through old debts and bloody secrets. As the orchestra plays a minuet, the first body is found in the library. Now Lorenzo must distinguish allies from executioners as the clock strikes twelve and the palazzo exits are guarded by men in identical silver masks. His only hope is a woman in a black dress who whispers warnings but refuses to reveal her face.
