🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film constructs a classic western narrative upon the unique Brazilian myth of the cangaceiro. It relies on the tension between a messianic folk belief and the cold pragmatism of colonial exploitation, exploring how a revolutionary symbol is born and then co-opted.

What lingers after the final frame is a sense of tragic futility—the journey from vengeance to becoming a pawn in a larger, dirtier game. Its power lies in its raw, almost ethnographic texture and refusal to offer easy redemption. — MovieFinder Editorial
