Drunken Noodles

Kai, a cook in a Bangkok Thai restaurant, prepares pad kee mao — drunken noodles — every evening. His movements are honed by years of practice, but his eyes look right through the kitchen walls. One day, among the orders, he sees a name he hasn't heard in ten years. Now, every ginger root, every chili pepper reminds him of a village in the north, a girl by the river, and a decision that forever altered his fate. The film explores the quiet drama of the everyday, where the past seeps into the present through scents and flavors. Director Apichatpong Weerasethakul creates a meditative canvas about memory, guilt, and the search for redemption in the most mundane labor.
