Conceived in 2007 by Zhang Hui, then manager of Beijing Desai Company, it documents China’s intellectual and social landscape during a period of transition. The series, initially available in mainland China, was later removed. Despite leaving Beijing and losing resources, its creator, Laohumiao, continues seeking ways to continue the project.
