Starring Hugh Burden and Oscar winner Ray Milland, and written by Terry Nation. Foster Twelvetrees, a struggling tragedian who scrapes a living by giving hammy performances from the classics, can hardly believe his luck when he’s invited to give a dramatic reading at the country home of a well-off family. 🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film constructs its humor by meticulously recreating the atmosphere of early '70s British horror, only to subvert it through Frankie Howerd's brilliantly panicked performance. It relies on familiar gothic tropes—the isolated mansion, family secrets, sudden deaths—and explores their inherent absurdity with a farcical touch.

Those who tire of straightforward scares will find delight in this spoof, where every sinister revelation is undercut by a perfectly timed comedic stumble. What lingers after the final reel is the joy of a genre parody that understands and affectionately mocks its source material. — MovieFinder Editorial
