Les irresponsables
Antoine, a forty-year-old Parisian, has a sudden epiphany that his life is a string of deferred decisions. "I'm not irresponsible, I'm just waiting for the right moment," he justifies to his ex-wife, while his best friend Vincent suggests immigrating to Canada to "start over from scratch." Instead, they decide to spend a week at Antoine's parents' countryside house, which is up for sale. They are joined by the eccentric neighbor Eloise, and the trio of grown—but not matured—adults begins an improvised game of "normal life." Their attempts to manage household chores, sort through garage junk, and even plant a vegetable garden spiral into absurd situations, revealing a deep-seated fear of the future and a reluctance to commit. The film walks the line between situational comedy and subtle drama, exploring what happens when infantilism becomes the only defense against societal pressure.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
Director Julie Bertuccelli employs a light, almost documentary-like camera to capture the spontaneity of dialogue and the awkwardness of everyday gestures. Her style is one of observation without judgment, where comedy arises from precise details rather than forced gags.
What lingers after the credits is an unexpectedly poignant resonance from a seemingly lighthearted tale. Anyone ready for a laugh at the clumsy attempts of its characters to 'grow up' will find a mirror held up to a very modern form of paralysis. — MovieFinder Editorial
