Xiao Ming is a seven-year-old boy living in a small village in southern China. He knows the names of all the stars in his constellation and can talk for hours about the life of ants. His world consists of endless fields, the stream behind his house, and an old grandfather who teaches him to read from ancient books. The 2025 documentary "慧童" (Wise Child) observes a year in Xiao Ming's life without didacticism or sentimentality. The camera follows his daily discoveries: learning to distinguish herbs by scent, listening to the stories of the wind, and wondering where the autumn leaves go. This is a film about childhood perception, where wisdom is measured not by textbook knowledge but by the depth of connection with nature and traditions gradually disappearing from modern life.
