Dr. Elvis Mercer, a brilliant and slightly unhinged entomologist, accidentally splices mantis DNA with an octopus in his basement lab. The result is Mantopus, a creature with an octopus's intelligence, a mantis's grip, and an appetite for anything that moves. When the monstrosity escapes and begins terrorizing a quiet seaside town, the local sheriff—who fears spiders more than guns—is forced to investigate. The only hope lies with an eccentric team: the doctor himself, his ex-wife zoologist, and a teenage gamer convinced this is just an ultra-realistic quest.
