Cicadas

Akira hears cicadas every time his father falls silent. The sound fills the gaps in their Tokyo apartment, where words have long turned into heavy objects, awkward to pass from hand to hand. His sister Yumi tries to glue the family back together with old photographs, but the pictures only highlight how far apart they've drifted. When their father unexpectedly loses his job, the silence in the house becomes deafening, and Akira realizes the cicadas aren't singing outside, but within him. The film explores the fragility of family bonds in modern Japan, where traditional roles are crumbling and finding a new language for connection proves harder than staying silent.
