Maggie hears whispers in the walls of the old house she inherited from her aunt. At first, it sounds like floorboards creaking, but soon the voices become distinct, calling her by a childhood nickname. Her husband Jake dismisses it as stress after her miscarriage, until writing appears in the bathroom—not in ink, but in something dark and sticky. Searching for answers, Maggie finds a box in the basement containing photographs of women from different eras, each with an identical scar on their left hand. A local amateur historian tells her the legend of the "Weeping Mother," a spirit that inhabits women who have lost a child, forcing them to bleed with the memories of others. The deeper Maggie digs, the more her own body begins to replicate the injuries of those in the photographs.
