Sukiyaki
Kenta Kurihara, imprisoned for assault, stares bleakly at his prison gruel. His cellmates, long accustomed to life behind bars, shamelessly finish his portions. Everything changes during Lunar New Year when inmates are served the traditional festive dish, osechi. A yearly ritual begins in the cell: prisoners take turns describing the most delicious food they've ever eaten, with the most convincing stories rewarded with tasty morsels from their neighbors' plates. Shunsuke Aida starts first, reminiscing about a dish his mother used to make.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
The film skillfully uses culinary memories as a key to its characters' souls, transforming a prison cell into a space for warm, almost domestic conversation. The comedy arises from the contrast between harsh circumstances and touching details of daily life.
What lingers after the credits is a poignant reminder of how food connects us to our past and to each other, even in the most confined spaces. A humble feast for the heart — MovieFinder Editorial
