Fatherland
Persona Non Grata in his homeland, protest singer Klaus Drittemann must leave East Berlin, his wife and child and emigrate to West Berlin, where the representatives of an American record company are eagerly waiting for him. They plan to exploit his defection from communism both ideologically and financially. But Klaus, as ill-at-ease in the West as he was in the East, is reluctant to be used as an expendable commodity. 🎬 MovieFinder's Take
The film constructs a poignant study of an artist caught between worlds, exploring the personal cost of political defiance. It relies on the tension between commercial exploitation and personal integrity, building a narrative where the search for a father mirrors the search for a lost homeland.
What lingers after the final frame is a profound sense of displacement and the quiet tragedy of a man who belongs nowhere. A thoughtful meditation on the burdens of legacy and principle. — MovieFinder Editorial
