Sioux Ghost Dance
From Edison films catalog: One of the most peculiar customs of the Sioux Tribe is here shown, the dancers being genuine Sioux Indians, in full war paint and war costumes. 40 feet. 7.50. According to Edison film historian C. 🎬 MovieFinder's Take
The film constructs a brief ethnographic record, presenting a ritual dance without narrative framing or commentary. It relies on the sheer visual documentation of the performers' movement and attire, capturing a performance staged for an outside audience rather than an intimate ceremony.
What lingers after viewing is the weight of this being a historical first, a cinematic artifact that marks the initial encounter between motion pictures and Native American cultural expression. — MovieFinder Editorial
