Filhos do Mangue
Maria, a fisherman's daughter, returns to her village after a decade in the city. Her father is dying from an illness linked to the pollution of the mangrove swamps. Instead of leaving again, Maria stays and begins gathering evidence against the chemical plant poisoning the water. She is supported only by her childhood friend João, whose family works at that very plant. The conflict has split the community: some fear losing their only income, others fear for their children's future. Maria's investigation leads to an unexpected discovery: documents point to the involvement of her own uncle, the town's mayor. Now she faces a choice between family and justice, between the past and the future of the place she once called home.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
Director Ana Souza employs an almost documentary-like shooting style; the camera often shakes in the operator's hands, following characters through the mud of the mangroves. Long takes without editorial cuts create a sense of real time and physical presence in this harsh environment.
Anyone ready for a story where personal grief collides with systemic failure will find a raw, unvarnished portrait of a community at a breaking point. What lingers after the credits is the weight of impossible choices, not easy resolutions. — MovieFinder Editorial
