Butterfly

Henri Charrière, a French convict in 1931, earns the nickname Papillon for the butterfly tattoo on his chest. Framed for a murder he didn't commit, he is sentenced to hard labor in the penal colony of French Guiana. His sole purpose becomes escape, yet each attempt results in years of solitary confinement. This 2025 animated drama explores the limits of human will under absolute oppression. While based on famous memoirs, the story is reimagined through contemporary animation, where every frame serves as a metaphor for the fragility of hope. Papillon finds an unlikely ally in counterfeiter Louis Dega, their friendship becoming the key to survival in a system designed to crush the human spirit.
