Aston, a quiet and reserved man, inhabits a cluttered top-floor room in a derelict London house. His solitary existence is interrupted by Mac Davies, an aging drifter freshly dismissed from a menial café job. Driven by loneliness or a peculiar pity, Aston takes him in and eventually offers him the role of caretaker. This fragile arrangement is shattered by the arrival of Aston's brother, Mick—a taunting, quasi-sadistic figure who torments the old man in his brother's absence, countermanding orders and seeding chaos in their precarious world.
