Gérald le Conquérant
Gérald, a forty-year-old loser from a provincial French town, wakes up with one thought: today he will become a conqueror. His plan is simple—to win the heart of his new colleague, Marie, using advice from an 80s self-help book. Each attempt spirals into a series of ridiculous situations: from dueling with a supermarket automatic door to an impromptu knight's tournament on a children's playground. While his bartender friend Paul tries to talk sense into him and his skeptical sister Sophie just laughs, Gérald stubbornly follows his absurd path. The film turns an ordinary day into an epic comedy about self-discovery through the most unexpected and hilarious failures, where the main battle is not with the outside world, but with one's own illusions.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
Director Pierre Dubois constructs the comedy on the contrast between Gérald's grand ambitions and the pettiness of his surroundings, employing static shots and long takes that only heighten the absurdity.
What lingers after the credits is not just laughter, but a recognition—in each of Gérald's ridiculous gestures, one might see a shadow of their own unrealized plans. Here, comedy becomes almost philosophical without losing its light, almost breezy pace. — MovieFinder Editorial
