The Price of Truth
Dmitry Muratov, editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, accepts the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2021. His newspaper remains Russia's last bastion of independent journalism, a title paid for in blood—six of his reporters have been murdered for their work. When Russia invades Ukraine in February 2022, Muratov uses a documentary festival as cover to secretly negotiate safe passage to Latvia for forty journalists. He then returns to Moscow to safeguard his paper and its remaining staff, steadfast in his declaration: "Putin stands for death. I stand for life."

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
This is less a chronicle of heroism and more a portrait of a man for whom professional duty has become a reason for being. The camera seeks not grand speeches, but the quiet tension of moments where lives hang in the balance.
What lingers after the credits is the immense, almost physical weight of words and actions in a system designed to render them meaningless. A testament to the cost of conviction. — MovieFinder Editorial
