Winter's Daughter

2011 · 90 min Family TV Movie Drama
5.6 / 10 · TMDB

For 11-year-old Kattaka it's an escape: she's looking for her biological father, a Russian sailor whose ship is currently moored in Gdansk and whose existence her parents have kept secret until now. For 70-year-old Lena it's a journey back: back to her home in Masuren, from which she fled in the Second World War. And back to her suppressed pain of having lost both parents. Only together can the mismatched couple regain the ground beneath their feet, and themselves.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film constructs a delicate bridge between generations, using a personal journey as a metaphor for finding roots and reconciling with the past. It relies on the contrast between youthful innocence and the weight of lived experience, exploring how healing emerges through mutual trust.

What lingers after viewing is a quiet, road-movie intimacy where the external path mirrors an internal one. It’s a gentle reminder that it’s never too late to ask the vital questions. — MovieFinder Editorial
