Worlds Apart

Makio Kōdai, a reclusive 35-year-old novelist, stands at the funeral of her sister and brother-in-law. Amidst the relatives' callous remarks, her gaze falls on 15-year-old Asa Takumi, now abruptly orphaned. A surge of protective fury leads Makio to impulsively take the girl in. Thus begins their cohabitation—two solitary souls, divided by a generation yet bound by shared loss and a mutual inability to navigate relationships with the outside world. Under one roof, they embark on the slow, tentative work of becoming a family, where silence and awkwardness gradually give way to fragile understanding.
