Two Sisters

Anna and Maria, sisters separated by war, inhabit parallel realities. Anna remains in the shattered city, venturing out daily to scavenge for water and medicine for the wounded in a basement hospital. Her world is the wail of sirens, the smell of smoke, and the crackle of radio static. Maria, evacuated abroad, struggles to build a new life in a foreign country where the silence is louder than explosions. They are connected only by an old phone with intermittent service, sharing not so much words as pauses and silences heavy with the unsaid. The film explores not physical distance, but the chasm between the experience of survival and the experience of rescue, where each sister loses and finds home in her own way. The narrative is built on the contrast of two types of loss: the loss of place and the loss of self in the attempt to forget. The director avoids grand battle scenes, focusing instead on the micro-traumas of daily life and the psychology of waiting, transforming a personal drama into a universal statement about the ruptures created by major historical events.
