The Setting Sun
Shōtarō, a struggling writer, returns to his provincial hometown after his father's funeral. Among the dusty manuscripts in the old study, he finds his father's unfinished novel—a haunting tale of clandestine love intertwined with a local ghost story. As Shōtarō attempts to complete the narrative, the boundary between his own life and the fictional world dissolves. He is drawn into a labyrinth of family secrets and his own repressed longing for Yūko, the neighbor he left behind. The past bleeds into the present, forcing a reckoning with inherited silence and the stories we choose to tell.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
The film is a delicate, haunting study of grief and inheritance, where the act of writing becomes a form of archeology. Its power lies in restraint, in the spaces between words and the weight of glances left unreturned.
What lingers after the final frame is not a plot twist, but a profound quiet—the echo of stories buried too deep to be fully unearthed, yet too vital to remain silent. — MovieFinder Editorial
Director: Akio Kondo

Dust motes dancing in slanted sunlight, the whisper of turning pages, the heavy scent of tatami and unresolved history.
