The Baby in the Basket

Martha finds a basket on the doorstep of her country house. Inside is not a crying infant, but a strange doll with eyes of black glass. Her husband Jacob insists it's a cruel prank, but by nightfall the doll is gone. In its place, a real child appears in the nursery—one who never cries, never laughs, and always stares at the same spot: an old family photograph in the hallway. Gradually, Martha realizes the child isn't just watching; it's waiting for something. Or someone. Neighbors begin whispering about the previous owners, about a ritual meant to protect a family, one that required a 'pure child.' Now, the silence in the house grows louder than any scream, and every creak of the floorboard sounds like a countdown.
