🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film constructs its comedic tension from the clash between the rancher's solid reliability and the father's charming but disruptive sophistication. Director George Seaton relies on Fred Astaire's brilliant performance, whose Pogo is both the most likable and the most selfish source of all troubles.

Those who tire of heavy dramas will find a graceful comedy of manners, complete with dance numbers and subtle satire on family values. What lingers after the credits is the warm glow of classic Hollywood wit. — MovieFinder Editorial
