The Poet
A newly appointed teacher arrives at a remote village school in 1947. This renowned journalist and poet has been exiled for illegal publications and forbidden anti-Soviet verses. Suspicious locals test his loyalties, while children willingly recite his own verses from 'To My Soviet Motherland'—a collection written under duress to praise Lenin. Ultimately, an unforgotten friend reveals a secret winter path leading to the underground bunker of the Dainava resistance platoon.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
The film masterfully dissects the agonizing rift between coerced public performance and private conviction, where every uttered word becomes either a shield or a weapon. Its visual language—frost-etched windows and wary glances—builds a climate of pervasive dread.
What lingers after the credits is a nuanced portrait of moral choice under total control, where poetry persists as the final refuge of the human spirit. A quietly powerful meditation on resilience and the cost of inner freedom — MovieFinder Editorial
