Alexander Yandy Laurens (born April 9, 1989) is a Indonesian film director, screenwriter, and producer. Born and raised in Makassar, Laurens studied film at the Jakarta Arts Institute (Institut Kesenian Jakarta). Alexander Yandy Laurens (born April 9, 1989) is a Indonesian film director, screenwriter, and producer. Born and raised in Makassar, Laurens studied film at the Jakarta Arts Institute (Institut Kesenian Jakarta). His graduation short film, Wan An, won Best Short Film at the 2012 Indonesian Film Festival. Following this achievement, he went on to direct numerous commercials, music videos, and web series. In 2017, Laurens was announced as the director of a film adaptation of the 1996 television series Keluarga Cemara. The film, titled Cemara’s Family, had its world premiere at the 2018 Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival. Starring Ringgo Agus Rahman, Nirina Zubir, Adhisty Zara, and Widuri Puteri, it was theatrically released on 3 January 2019 and became the seventh highest-grossing Indonesian film of all time, with 1,699,433 admissions. His second feature film, Falling In Love Like in Movies, a partially black-and-white romantic comedy, premiered at the 18th Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival. This marked his second collaboration with Ringgo Agus Rahman and Nirina Zubir following Cemara’s Family. The film was released theatrically in Indonesia on 30 November 2023 and went on to receive eleven nominations at the 2024 Indonesian Film Festival, including Best Picture and Best Director. In 2024, Laurens was announced as the director of another adaptation of a television series created by Arswendo Atmowiloto, titled A Brother and 7 Siblings. The film served as the closing title of the 19th Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival. His fourth feature film, Sore: Istri dari Masa Depan, adapted from his web series of the same name and starring Dion Wiyoko reprising his role, was theatrically released in Indonesia on 10 July 2025.
